Welcome, Silicon to the Element Family!

With this release, we introduce a brand new, data-structuring function called Transpose Columns in Element AssetHub’s library of data pipeline transformations.

Equipment data consists of continually-changing time series data as well as static, or slow-changing, data that site engineers often collect and store in a variety of documents and formats. While building a pipeline, you may have several columns of static and non-static tabular data that are not directly compatible with the format required in AssetHub. With the Silicon release, AssetHub now offers Transpose Columns as a powerful data-shaping function for re-ordering this data into an acceptable row-based format, making it easy for AssetHub to consume and use.

Additional new features in this release enhance the user experience when you log in to AssetHub or when you build the Asset data model.

Here are the new features and updates:

  • Transpose Columns transformation for reshaping data
  • Pipeline enhancements
  • Bulk management of templates
  • User control of jobs
  • Security updates

Transpose Columns transformation for reshaping data

Transformations extract, organize, and contextualize equipment data. The Transpose Columns transformation allows users to reorganize selected columns in wide tables into row-based key-value pairs that can be consumed by other transformations in the pipeline (a pipeline chains numerous transformations in sequence, culminating in the building of an asset data model). The values can be used to create a richly-defined hierarchy for digitally monitoring operations in the physical environment.

Transformations available in data pipelines

One of the key ways customers use the Transpose Columns transformation is when they map static values (such as safe operating limits or equipment specifications) to a hierarchy. Transpose Columns takes static data in an equipment sheet and transposes it into rows as key-value pairs.

With the new transformation, you can use a transposed set of static values (for example, from a limit sheet) to map as attributes to populate the Element Graph. Asset Explorer displays the static values in the resulting hierarchy. Static values are useful for defining the limits of operating envelopes in predictive operations such as Condition-based Monitoring (CBM).

Pipeline enhancements

These pipeline enhancements make it even easier to build asset data models:

  • A new drop-down context menu is available on any transformation, making it easier to access Properties and Configuration tasks related to the transformation.

  • The Copy/Paste function easily replicates complex parts of your pipeline within the canvas through keyboard shortcuts. (Note that the Map Attributes transformation cannot be copied or pasted.)

Bulk management of templates

The Template Library can grow exponentially large as you continue to add data to the asset data model. AssetHub now provides a way to download all or a selected set of Asset Templates into an Excel spreadsheet, where you can make your appropriate template changes in bulk. Once done, you can upload the updated sheet to append your changes to the existing Template Library.

User control of jobs

With the Silicon release, you can now use the restart option to initiate a job or kill a job run that is currently running. The Jobs page posts each job’s run status - active or completed. The page also includes a list of scheduled jobs.

Security updates

We continuously improve and strengthen our existing enterprise-grade security features to ensure AssetHub deployment meets the latest enterprise security requirements. The Silicon release includes prompted guidance for setting up a strong password and easy password reset when you are locked out or have lost access to AssetHub due to inactivity.
